Acworth Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash - Acworth Patch
The Cobb County (Ga.) Police Department has identified the motorcyclist killed Tuesday night when he struck a concrete retaining wall on Cheatham Road between Deer Valley Drive and Old Stilesboro Road in Acworth.
Investigators suspect that excessive speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the crash that killed Scott Finnell, who apparently lost control of a black 2011 Harley Davidson Electra Glide while riding southbound on Cheatham Road at 10:31 p.m. Tuesday, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department

Excessive speed? Nah, I doubt that -- he was riding a Harley, after all. The alcohol part sounds right.

Default Alcohol and Riding

Back in 1975, I had one of those CL360 Honda's with the standard orange and black paint job. Loved that bike. Had a kick start, but would start every single time it was kicked. . .unless I had been drinking.

Two drinks affected me enough that my coordination was not timed well enough to start it. Boy was that an effective deterrent. I walked home from the airmen's club on afew occasions before I figured out that alcohol wasn't worth the walk.

Of course, my tolerance for alcohol is pretty low, but I seriously cannot understand how people can spend the evening at the bar, drinking beers and eating peanuts, then get on their bikes and expect to be as vigilant in their ride.

Their life, their decision.

A person was killed in a motorcycle crash, it doesn't matter what kind of bike they were riding, it's sad thing and IF alcohol was a part in it it should serve as a learning experience for the rest that think they can drink and ride/drive. If it was night time when this happened darkness could also played a part in the accident

It's reckless decisions like this that end lives, quite a shame. Let's hope those in his community learn from his mistake.

That's why I never drink more than 6 beers at the bar every night. The seventh one will put too much pressure on Heather(my Phantom) to get me home safely. On those rare occasions when I DO drink 7 or 8...I tell Heather..."It's ALL you baby cause...I'm drunk. She does a good job when she knows she will be doing most of the work.

An article about a motorcycle getting killed and no mention of a helmet. Must be a first.

Except it is NOT only their life. We all share the road. Therefore it is not their decision when there is a high probability others will be hurt. Drunk drivers are the scum of the earth.

I can remember driving home so drunk I didn't remember the drive. That was in the 60's and there were no laws so we didn't know any better and didn't really think about it then. Now I wouldn't think of drinking and driving!! Like jgarib said we share the road, if your stupid enuf the drive drunk I don't really care what you do to yourself but if It affects other families my hope is when your delt with it really screws up your life too!!! I see an NFL player just killed a teammate I hope the players hate this guy to the point he leaves the team and league. I know I wouldn't play with him!!

Sad indeed. Too much experience in my family with drunk drivers. Drunk driver almost took my wife's life in a horrific collision when she was 19 as many of you already know. Notice I choose not to use the word "accident" ... accidents are avoidable and he had a choice not to drink and get behind the wheel. He chose poorly.

Second, my wife's ex-husband has two DUI's ... you think the first one would have been enough ... dumb^ss landed in jail for 3 months the second time.

Third, his father also has a DUI. Nice guy, but just a stupid choice and got caught.

Fourth, one of my close friends got a DUI in his car ... he was sleeping in it on the side of a major highway and all he remembers is riding his motorcycle to the BAR! Doesn't remember getting home, nor driving out. Dumb ... I punched him later. He thanked me.

Fifth, my best friend was dishonorably discharged from the marines at age 23 for being part of a one car accident that nearly cost him and his buddy their lives by being thrown from the car in a wooded area off a mountain side in NC. Both spent about 3 months in the hospital including memory loss from head trauma, his buddy's foot being amputated and lots of physical therapy ... they still don't remember who was driving and it was never determined!

Lastly, my 17 year old son only last year got a ride from a friend's friend at a party. He said the driver, a 19 year old man, was driving nearly 70mph in a 35 zone when they got pulled over. The driver tested double the limit for alcohol consumption. I guess I was lucky to only have to go pick him up from the traffic stop instead of identifying him at the morgue. In my son's defense though, they did not know the driver was drunk because my son's friend called for the ride ... the driver was not at the party they were at. I'll never forgive that driver - he's serving a community service sentence and a suspended driver's license.

Hopefully he'll learn ... hopefully ALL of the above will learn.

Drinking and driving don't mix. In a word, duh.
