Default Time for a new chain?

on the last 10 miles of my ride home I started hearing a thumping noise, so I got off the freeway and took the side roads as slow as I could.

Came home, put her up on the stand to see if I could find where the noise was coming from.

Take a look.

I'll say, It was the master link. I guess the one side fracturing made the clip fly off and so I was able to remove the chain from the bike by just wiggling the chain a little.

I can also see where other links are not straightening out. This should have been a sign for you,,also that chain seems real dry, not much chain lube or chain wax.

Nah you can get at least another half a mile before it falls off completely.

Replace the masterlink, check, clean and lube it ~ have a good look at sprockets also...
First time I`ve seen one like that, you have a guardian angel flying within reach...
Merry Christmas

That chain is bone dry like has already been mentioned. Glad you made it home safely.

With that damage I would go on the safe side and replace sprockets too, putting a new chain on worn sprockets WILL dramatically shorten the life of the new chain.
