I am certain that all 19215 of your posts were original gems.

I think you're upset because if the helmet performs as mentioned, the old 'low speed crash danger posed by helmets' argument would take a hit.

IIRC, Dave's tiresome and repetitive arguments against helmets were primarily based on the "broken neck" theory. Now it's cumulative concussions. I'm sensing a little revisionist history here, but then we already know that Dave struggles with reality so why be bogged down in consistency?

In any case, I really don't understand the idea behind this new design. Not many riders are exposed to repeated low-velocity crashes, which this helmet is supposed to address. If you fall off your motorcycle onto your head more than a couple of times Darwin has voted you out of the pack anyway and you should go quietly.

Having wrecked a few bikes and had my life saved by a helmet once already no argument will ever convince me that its somehow safer to ride without gear.

Do you wear boots? All that extra mass vs tennis shoes obviously causes broken ankles.

Sounds pretty dumb right?
I concur!

The article was about improvements in the technology of helmets, including those worn by football players and others. Some folks also have kids that play football and the recent deluge of information of concussion injuries and the lifelong affects of them from sports make this an interesting read. Any improvements that can reduce the incidence of injurious head trauma is greatly appreciated. Since my wife's son has severe traumatic brain injury I would really like to see other parents spared that ordeal. There are those of us, including myself who ride with a helmet - why - for me it is because we have lots of rocks on the highway around here and I get tired of them being kicked up and getting hit in the face by them. Also, exclusive of laws requiring me to I also wear it because my wife is much more at ease with my riding with one. Since I care more for her than anyone I do what I can to alleviate adding to the already abundant sources of stress in life for her.

This is not another opportunity for you to roll out that same tired old tirade about wearing or not. It doesn't matter to this conversation anymore than my absolute distaste for weed confers upon me any special permissions to invade any conversation or thread where weed smoking is mentioned to beat the horse about my personal views on it. If you want to do it then please enjoy.

So if folks want to ride without a helmet then fine if their legislature approves it, if not then they can take steps to change it or move to a state that does allow it, it is how things work. I'm keeping mine and probably buying another of a different style. I will keep my views on weed out of the boards and when the subject of helmets comes up and you have that overwhelming desire to preach on the subject you might perhaps consider a STFU moment.

Agreed.

Everytime I tell my wife I'm going out for a ride, she says "knock yourself out," God Bless her little wifey heart. I know what she means, but I told her I'd wish she'd come up with some other phrase.

Or maybe I'm just not getting the message.

Back to helmets...
