Default Been fun & we'll see ya on the road.

It's final I finally went to the dark side. Traded my 2011 phantom off for an 05 road king. Got a deal I couldn't pass up on a well maintained excellent low milage bike. Don't get me wrong, I loved the phantom, but after almost 12k miles in 14 months I needed more motor, more comfort and more storage. I really wanted a bagger and the right bike at the right price was there.

I'm in no means a Harley guy, as I a motorcycle guy and most Harley's never really appeal to me with the exception of their baggers. That and they are high priced. So when I saw the road king I thought about it and thought there was a chance. The wife ok'd it so I went for. Plus the road king is a base level bagger that I can build the way I want.

So I'll still lurk and post on occasion as I still really like Hondas and won't hesitate to go back some day. Heck I'd still like to completely strip and bob out a phantom. Some day I guess. Just hope Honda wises up and builds a vtwin bagger some day.

I won't bad mouth your choice! I've had 8 Harley's over the years and If I rode more I would still have one! I couldn't justify having the money tied up in a Harley that didn't get ridden much. Never had a problem with any of them. I still visit the HD forum from time to time but I'm pretty impressed with the folks on the Shadow forum so far! Ride safe!

Only thing about Harley that pisses me off is the dealership attitude toward metric.

Wanted to get my bike dyno'd after some tuning. 6 shops in my area with a dyno. 5 of them won't let a metric through the shop door.

Bah.

Nuttin wrong with your choice! I have had several of them over the years. Bad mouth them if you want, they ride nice, for what they are. As the saying goes, " nothing rides like a Harley " ..

I no doubt will never have another one though. I find the Honda's more to my liking now-A-days!

Still I have many friends that will only ride a bike that has that iconic logo on the tank. Some of them will not even trade rides with you for a few miles.

Hope yours treats you better, than mine treated me !

I ventured over to a few HD forums to look at adding some stopping power to the Softail. The responses were loaded with gems like : "too much stopping power will pull the spokes out", "why would you want a 2nd disc ugging up your wheel", "just pull the lever harder", and "what front brake???" I decided to stay here and never go back

Couple local shops like that. Heritage in Lisle, IL is a great HD dealer though, and they don't give any guff about what you're riding in and out of their lot. I wouldn't take a Honda there for service though, they're fairly different bikes in engine and primary drive. Significantly beyond different measurements for nuts and bolts.

Oh, no doubt about that. And I was very specific that I wasn't looking to have them tune the bike. I just wanted it dyno'd which should be pretty much universal no matter what make the ride is.

Just irritating really. The bike may have been made in Japan, but the money paying for the dyno service was made in the USA.

Maybe they were just hesitant to report the highest numbers they'd seen on the dyno came from a Honda
