Uninsured coverage does not cover your vehicle if someone hits you and they do not have insurance. It is for medical bilss, many have the wrong idea of what it covers, if you have collision insurance your insurance will cover your vehicle. If you have medical insurance that would probably cover your medical biks, mine did when I was hit from behind on my Gold Wing by a guy on a Harley.
Uninsured motorist coverage is intended to compensate you for both your financial and your non-financial losses which you sustain, and for which you have a legal claim as a result of the negligence of an uninsured, underinsured, or hit-and-run driver. Your financial losses would include any medical expenses which you reasonably required as a result of such an incident, any loss of income or earnings, any diminution in your ability to earn money in the future, or any assorted out-of-pocket expenses such as household and related help and assistance.

Under Insured is the most important coverage one can have. Many people buy the legal minimum which would not cover the helicopter ride.

Age: 31
2001 Shadow Spirit

Geico:
Bodily Injury: 100,000/300,000
Property Damage Liability: 50,000 (too many BMW's out there)
Medical Payments: None
Uninsured/underinsured: 100,000/300,000
Comprehensive deductible: $250
Collision Deductible: $250
No Towing

Total cost: 243/yr.

Regarding my no coverage of medical payments.. I chose none due to the fact I have health insurance through my employer so it's not needed. The whole thing sort of confuses me though in combination with Bodily Injury Liability. Anyone capable of clarifying what the difference is?

Wow I am amazed at how little most of you are paying for insurance. Here in British Columbia Canada the province has socialized vehicle insurance meaning you must buy from a province owned insurance monoploy for basic coverage but can use a 3rd party insurer for other coverage. Using 2 insurers is a hassle so not many do this.

This state owned insurance was brought in to "reduce" insurance costs. It is "no fault" which means the insurance premiums for good drivers are the same as premiums for drivers who cause numerous accidents. This is supposedly non-profit insurance so what they do is calculate how much money will be required for administration, vehicle repairs and medical and then divide by the number of drivers. It is astronomical.

I have no accidents or claims in 20 years
I have no traffic violations etc for 10 years
I am over 50 and have 30 years driving MC with no claims
The declared value of my MC is $3000

Basic Coverage: $1413
3rd party Liability 2,000,000 $ 245
Collision 500 deductable $ 493
Specifc Perils (fire/theft) 300 deductable $ 658

Total $2809 : shock::s hock:

Did I mention I insure 2 bikes and 2 cars. No wonder I am so poor.

Damn, I have 14 years driving, no years riding, far worse history, and was offered similar coverage for under $80/year. I'm truly grateful after reading this.
