Default How do you cover your bike?

Insurance wise that is.
Legal limits only or coverage from head to toe and then some?
Uninsured motorists?

I was told by my lawyer if I had UM when the school bus hit me last year, there would be more than the 125k cap on the litigation limit but I don't get why. Why would my coverage take hold and why wouldn't that count against me even tho the bus driver was faulted?

Is your bike covered just sitting there at home (especially if you have no garage)? I'm told my coverage wouldn't aid in hail, etc so it's almost like whats the dang point!?

I pay $235 a year and I have allstate.

I have comprehensive that covers everything - property damage is only covered up to around $25,000 I think (figured I really can't do more damage than that on my little 700cc bike)

I think my medical coverage is around 75k, possibly 100k.

Have towing coverage which covers the first 50 dollars.

Just filed a claim for a 200 dollar medical bill (took a bad spill a month ago and laid the bike down) and they contacted me, offering money to replace any parts that got damaged (told them I was repairing myself) and they also offered me a 100 dollar check for pain and suffering.

-24 years old with no accidents on my record, but 1 illegal u-turn ticket from over a year ago.

I forget the actual limits but I did go high on them. I think I went 75/100/75 or something close. With uninsured, and towing.

I have kids and a wife. If I endure any pain from riding, I want to make sure they won't be suffering.

Mine was a $75/year base so I added a ton of extra coverage and got it up to $115. Figured, at that cheap, might as well go for it. That was through Progressive. I get my other ins through AmFam and though they are awesome, they wanted almost $400/year for minimum coverage.

You guys have it tough in the US for insurance. I pay $220 a year for full comprehensive coverage. The bike is insured for $12000 and I have $20m liability cover. This includes everything except act of terrorism. I will have to pay the first $500 of any claim where I cannot find an at fault driver. So, rain, hail, theft, collision etc etc. all covered.

I'm guessing your insurance is a lot more limited due to a very litigious society. Too many law type shows maybe. Come and ride in Oz

I have just the minimum liability and roadside assistance. $119 a year thru Progressive. I'll probably change it to cover a bit more later on. Just had to get insurance so I could get my tag.

I basically got the same coverage that I have on my car. Of course, the coverage for the actual bike is a lot less since it's (financially) worth less than the car, but I got the same coverages for BI, PD, UM, etc. Through Progressive, cost was about $220/year.

You would be correct. Like the idiot my agent just told me about who drove his BMW into flood waters and got the whole 28k in return. Freaking really?? Seems like that should constitute as fraud.

My policy was (seeing how I had to cancel it out of not riding enough of late) like 235, not sure of the coverages but without UM or towing (because I have friends in low places with trailers LOL!).
Heck, 1/3 of the price is this idiot fees and surcharges! What a crock!

I went with full coverage throuugh State Farm including un/under insured. 250/500/100. $250 deductable.

$339/year. $160 of that is just for the un/under insured.

I received a quote from Progressive with the same coverage plus roadside for about $260/year so I may be switching the bike over to them.
