Places like America and Britain are no longer places where you can just drive because you have a license, with the age of CCTV cameras of all types and automatic billing on toll roads the governments have the ability to make some serious revenue from fines..I don't care how good you think your government is, they are not going to pass up the chance to collect millions of dollars..

That is not exactly what they are saying. The 4th amendment prohibits against "unreasonable" searches and seizures. What they are saying is that based upon the minimal level of intrusion and the state's competing interest, the seizure (of the person) for such a short time, is not unreasonable. It if was not unreasonable, it never was illegal.

Here is an article discussing drug checkpoints stops but it discusses the history of roadside checkpoints in general. Not all searches are unreasonable. For example, I am glad they make folks go through metal detectors before they get on a plane with me.

I'm a big fan of the nanny state. All three of my children had nannies and they have grown up to be happy, well-adjusted and successful. I think everyone needs a nanny.

This is nothing more than a thinly veiled money grab by the state of NY. And I don't really care if the court ruled it wasn't unconstitutional, that ruling just doesn't pass the common sense test. It also seems like a conflict of interest since the court is also part of the state and a beneficiary of the money generated by this.

it is what it is for better or worse. Took me a long time, and two tickets, to start wearing seat belts. My stance was keep your laws off my body since it only effects me. Like i said two tickets later i decided i'd rather sacrifice principle than cash. Just wear the approved helmet and get on with life and enjoy riding.

Next up ... gun laws ... it is going to get very interesting over the next year or so as the legislature and courts take up gun laws. I'm not wanting opinions as a result of my statement, it is just a statement of fact shared by much smarter people than me.

Disgusting. I hate seeing the leftist nazi cancer slowly creep over the US. In my state, we don't have to wear them, and most people don't. Even though I choose to wear one, I value my right to make that choice on my own.

It is what it is.. but it doesn't have to stay that way.. but if will if people just put their tail between their legs and don't fight..it has been beaten in other states.. heck it was just about beaten there.. I am really thankful for those fighting for MC rights that won't simply fold up and die.

not sure that this equates? weird statement IMO.

but more importantly... in cal tickets were fought by the fact that there is NO D.O.T. specification!! so the response "please inform me just what the D.O.T. specifications are and i will get a helmet that meets or exceeds them, if you cannot produce such specifications, then how can i actually meet them"? of course you will still get the ticket but you can make a case before the judge. of course the judge may just "GUILTY... $85"!!! It didn't get the law changed in cal but due to the large number of attorneys who ride and do fight, they stopped challenging and citing those wearing the "novelty" helmets.

Got stopped at a motorcycle-only roadblock here in GA (north metro Atlanta) a few months ago where they were checking license and insurance.

How is it possibly legal to check only motorcycles for something that is required of ALL vehicles... Again, somewhat of a rhetorical question...
