In the Body Shops I worked at thats $4000 to $5000 worth of paint if it looks REALLY SHARP up close .He has something on top of the tank to .. Could look like Crap Job if you saw it in person .If I was gonna go threw that much time I would have used a different Canvas and colors . Sure isnt worth no $4500 now ..

I had to double-check that the seller wasn't in an area of the country where people could ride year-round... $4500 for that bike in Detroit, at this time of the year? Yikes. He'll have a hard time selling it for that much even in the spring! Ah well- I don't think I'd buy it at ANY price, so who am I to say? I hope he sells it and gets what he wants for it- maybe it's his gift budget for the kids or something.

Dentist by day. Badass biker by night. Once or twice a week. I bet there's a maltese cross in there somewhere, too. Because that would DEFINITELY be badass! Probably add a few horsepower too!

There are a lot of overpriced bikes on CL, but this one doesn't seem as egregious as many others you can find any day of the week. KBB on a low-miles '96 is probably north of $2K, and that paint job must have set him back a bunch.

I wouldn't pay that much for it -- or anything near that -- but IMHO he's not THAT far out of bounds. And remember, that price is just a negotiating point. Nobody ever started too low and then worked up.

Hey! I got a Maltese Cross on my bike! Maybe is cause I'm Maltese? Seriously, I am. Lol

P.S. I think it did add a few HP!

The bike is almost 17 years old with only 15000 miles. Might have had the speedo replaced at one time. If that is the actually mileage why the extra coli pacs. With a bike that old replacements parts could be hard to come by.
Oh yea, it is BUTT UGLY, IMHO

For $4500 you would think he would be willing to spend what it takes to install a choke cable. It is a little tricky DIY but not that bad and even a dealer would probably do it for a couple hundred bucks. I am neutral on the paint job but the problem with custom paint jobs is that it may look good to you but not to a prospective buyer - and even someone who likes it likely does not want to pay a premium for it. And a well kept original paint job is probably worth more on a bike of that vintage and there are likely more interested buyers. Bright and unusual colors can be problematic on anything when one is selling - think bright yellow carpet in a house on the market - the realtor is going to tell you to replace it before showing the house regardless of how new it is.

I have always wondered about the wisdom of "will trade for XXXX" also. It seems to me this is not such a useful strategy. Essentially one is saying "I will trade my white elephant for your white elephant." And all you are likely to get out of the trade is another white elephant. In this case, a 4x4 truck worth the more realistic asking price of $1500 is probably not worth towing home.
