I wear my Justin boots mostly to break the wind better than my sneaks, and because they are much more water resistant under the chaps. I imagine they'd be only a little bit better in crash protection, though.

I dropped a bike on the way to work about 25 years ago on an off camber corner and slid on the rode about 30 metres. I was wearing elastic-sided, steel-cap, ankle high work boots, and the left boot slid right off. The road wore through the sock and my left ankle and then the bike exhaust header landed on the exposed raw skin and bone. Took a few weeks to heal and was pretty painful.
To answer your question, that is why I wear full riding boots all the time. I wish I could wear my motocross boots on the road but they take too long to put on.

Stopped wearing sneakers many years ago.
Stopped at a light and got my shoelace tangled on my left peg... they are stronger than they look. Down I went.... It was one of several embarrassing learning experiences. Have been wearing work, riding and desert boots since. Laces tucked if equipped.

Wolverine insulated work boots in the cold weather, and 5.11 Taclite the rest of the time. Both 8" with good ankle support.

I wear Viberg Stompers. Composite toe and oil resistant and heat and cold resistant soles. Nice and waterproof. Of course they are hot and I don't always wear them in the middle of summer, I know I should, but on short trips.... you know. Going on a trip< iwear them regardless of temp.
I also wear them to work, church and anywhere in between. LOL
