I have a GoPro 2 and I'm quite satisfied with it. I've provided the camera for some friends to use to make broadcast commercials and on two ocassions footage has been provided to TV stations for newscasts so the camera is capable of producing very good HD video. But it comes down to what you are looking for.

Lol, I've seen the GoPro in stores and never really gave it any thought till now! You fools prolly just spent $500 of my hard earned cash and will get me major wife agro,,,,THANKS GUYS!!!! lol. Ya ya, i'm a gadget freek too!! Now to do my own home work.

I have been into photography for many years, the long white lenses and all. Models upgrade all the time that you will never be current and what you do get will soon be outdated. For that reason, I always encourage folks to buy a camera about two models old. You will get more bang for your buck and once you finally realize how you want to use it, the current model will again be two models old. Rinse and repeat.

If you wanna decent camera on the cheap, here is one to consider. It's a knock off gopro, and comes w/ more features. A friend of mine bought one and is really happy w/ it.
If I didn't already have a GoPro, I would buy one.

Thanks to all for your responses and experiences.

Bit the bullet and ordered up the Drift Ghost. Ordered directly from Drift as there seems to be no discounted Drift Ghost cameras around anywhere. Ordered from them for another reason also, at the moment they are giving buyers $100.00 worth of accessories free with the order. So I got a spare battery, car charger, extra mounts and a couple of other things for no charge. They also offered free shipping. Only extra cash I was out for something I wanted was the Drift Power Pack which charges your stuff or supplies about 20 hours of run time to the camera if hooked to it.

The only downer to this is having to order the MicroSD class 10 cards separate. So got two 32 GB cards.

Should all be here in about 5 days, just in time to sit around for 2 months until our world around here reaches temps above 30° on a daily basis....

So much for the saved up Christmas and Birthday money .....
