Buttpucker moment as someone pulled out in front of me last night. Check out those catlike reflexes and listen to that manly horn!

Happens all the time which is why I am thinking more and more about a headlight modulator. A few days ago, I had a guy come off the interstate from my right side as I was crossing on the underpass. He did a left turn right in front of me. I had to brake hard and I held my hand up saying What the Hell. He figured his waving sorry somehow made it all better. I was the only one in my lane, and I had my brights on. I do wonder if a modulator would have made a difference.

sometimes when i'm unsure of whether the person turning onto my street sees me i will flash my high beams on and off as i approach. I also slow down and assume everyone is going to pull in front of me. Always good to know all your escape routes at all time as well. It looks like you knew no one was on your left and looked to be sure. Good maneuver and glad you are safe.

I'll do that, and sometimes I'll also stand up to try and catch some attention. All the while prepared to just quickly change lanes or ride the shoulder in case none of it works.
I once saw a guy picking a cup up to his face as he was inching into the street making his turn, and I stood up to see if I could catch his peripheral. It worked, and he proceeded to stop which caused whatever he was drinking to spill on himself. Had me laughing my ass off as I scooted past in the 1/2 of a lane he had left available to me. |

Nice reaction - quick check to the blind spot and a controlled swerve to avoid. Very well done, I hope to have your control if/when this happens to me.

I love the powerful horn...commands attention. Seriously, I want to put a horn on my bike that has some decibels to it for just that reason. I never understood why they put wimpy horns on motorcycles and little cars.
I'm glad you came through unscathed.
