Motorcyclist dies after being pursued, shot by CHP

"A motorcyclist being chased by the California Highway Patrol near Ventura died Saturday after crashing over an embankment and being shot by the pursuing officer.

The name and age of the victim and the identity of the CHP officer involved in the shooting had not been released Sunday morning as Ventura County sheriff's deputies continued their investigation into the incident, said sheriff's Capt. Jerry Hernandez.

Authorities said the CHP officer saw the motorcyclist speeding on old Pacific Coast Highway near Faria Beach, north of Ventura, and pursued him onto Padre Juan Canyon Road near the 101 Freeway. About 2:20 p.m. the motorcycle crashed and went over an embankment before the shooting occurred.

The investigation will focus on circumstances leading to the shooting, sheriff's officials said. The sheriff's involvement was requested by the CHP, they said."

Give us a break! You have no idea why the suspect ran from the police or what occurred before or after the collision. A person was injured, shot, and could possibly lose his life and yet it's nothing more than the brunt of a joke?

Motorcyclist or not, you don’t use deadly force needlessly. Period.
Should the cop have shot him? I don’t know. Hopefully the investigation will answer that.
Should the motorcyclist have run from the law? No. This is a no-brainer.

Quoted for truth ! This is almost exactly what I was going to post.

Let the Law do it's job. This person may have only gotten a ticket. Instead, he lost his life! At this point, it's all speculation on our parts. We need more facts to make an informed decision.

That's cute and all, but the real world doesn't always work that way. I'm glad for all those of you who have never been wrongfully treated by law enforcement and will never understand what I'm talking about. But, I've run into far too many abusive and corrupt cops to just trust that they're always doing their job. We even have two friends of the family who were able to prove in court that their sons were needlessly killed by aggressive cops. Tell the dead that they shouldn't run. If you fit a certain stereotype and live in the wrong neighborhood, sometimes you gotta run.
