But as been said already anyone with the help of some money can use one of dozens of investigative companies to find out anything they want though plate numbers they see on anyone's vehicles. Why hide it from those who may be least inclined to care. ie Motorcycle shoppers? I would be more paranoid about my very public plate or VIN if I were a topless dancer at closing time then a bunch of motorcycle enthusiasts.

The problem is online, shoppers are not just shopping for a bike to buy.
There are people shopping for info to use to comit crime. Which is why I hide all my plate info from all online photos. It's a sad world, but on ebay for example, for every 1 "real" shopper there must be 3 scam artists looking for a sucker.

People tend to think they are a little more noteworthy than they really are. Like people who turn off the location feature on their cell phones so's no one can "track" 'em.
Truth be known - nobody wants 'em! A little message should pop up that reads "Don't flatter yourself, cupcake..." But, covering your license plate in a photo is kind of like wearing a helmet when you ride - some protection is usually better than none at all.

Years ago, Easy Rider did a feature on a bike, and the plate was shown, The bike was stolen very shortly thereafter, and since then, they no longer show plates.
Personally, I give out as little info as possible. Not so much an ego thing... I just don't like giving it out.
