i asked the dealer, for the chain 200$, with every thing, 350$ with taxes.
alot more than i thought. i want to keep the oem sizes, do to that these are high reving engines. and engine power band is lost when using a smaller sprocket. sure you get a little more top end but it comes with a bigger torque lose. instead of having torque all the way through and having alot more range and hitting that power band, you utilize the power band all the way through the gearing and rpm, which makes you lose that get up and go, and cause alot of labouring of that high reving engine. sure i could get a highway gear set from scootworks, etc... but i don't want the affects that come with the change, sure you lose some vibration, which i never have felt my self, i just don't think honda would've forgot to think about it when it was enginered. any way, just my 2 cents. i guess the dealer is the way to go, i did talk to the dealer and one of the guys said that if the sprockets are in good condition, which they are. then i could cut out one of the chain links and move the master one back. which seems ok, i just have to measure the chain to see how much it did streatch, as i want to be sure if it would be safe enough to do. any way, thanks again for the info. |

What bike?
With the talk of low end torque it sounds like a smaller bike. But, we can't help you if we don't know what bike it is. P.S. NEVER mix old and new chain components. NEVER put used drive parts together from different bikes. The chain might seem like it will be OK but the littlest wear tolerance will be magnified 10X over and the chain will fly within a short time. Occasionally you will get lucky but it's probably less than 10% of the time.

It's your bike so do what you want but I have to say, I've heard a lot of people going from a 44 tooth rear sprocket to a 39-40 and could hardly tell a difference in power. Plus, a small fuel consumption savings due to lower revs on the highway. Depending on what you are riding, you can check a lot of places online and get oem gears and chain though

Huh, funny thing. Around Christmas I installed a Billski 38 tooth sprocket on the wife's 750 spirit. It did not lose any power that I can feel and...it now runs the same speed/gear as my 1300! So, believe what you want, you dont lose SH!T! That by far is the best thing you can do for a 750 sprit...and then the Mustang seat of course!
Old dad's 600 hangs just find at 70+ because his sprocket change. Google Billski, they are good people with geat prices! Coop
