Kicking around planning out a ride in southern Indiana the weekend of September 3rd or 4th weather permitting of course.:serious: We did the Brown County thing last year around that time, but was thinking since some came from farther south, planning a ride closer to them this time.
Here's my preliminary 'plan'. Meet in Paoli, IN, there is a BBQ place and a gas station close to each other on the west side of town. We could grab some lunch and gas up there. Then head west to West Baden Springs and possibly check out the restored hotel there. There and French Lick is where Al Capone would hang out when things went down in Chicago.
Then head west on 150 to 550 to Hindostan Falls. Never been there but I guess there are some water falls there on the White River. There appears to be parking areas there so there must be something there...:smile2:
This is where I can't figure out what/where to head next. We could take 550 on into Loogootee, IN, pick up 231 and head south to 56 and head back to West Baden or even Paoli. Problem with that is, it's taking anyone from farther south back up north again.
Opinions/feedback/other ideas?
UPDATE/EDIT: This would have to be on September 3rd as I had forgotten my wife and I had made plans for the 4th, 5th, and 6th. I apologize for the apparent misleading title.
Ok, number so far interested in attending is up to 3.:smile2:
BTW, this would have to happen on Saturday the 3rd. I seem to have forgotten while drinking wine with the wife Friday evening:smile2: that we had discussed spending a couple of nights away from home around then. Sorry, I remembered this AFTER I had posted this up.
Here's a little more detail as far as time/distance. All are from Google Maps and are approximate.
Indy to Paoli, 100-115 miles 2 hours
Paoli to West Baden 10 miles 20-25 minutes
West Baden to Hindostan Falls 20 miles 30 minutes
Hindostan Falls to Loogootee 6 miles 10 minutes
Two different routes from Loogootee back to West Baden
#1 35 miles 45 minutes
#2 75 miles 1 hour or so.
Route #2 looks more interesting as it would take us south to Jasper, IN and then head east and finally north and cross Patoka Lake back into West Baden. Route #1 would have us retrace some of the roads we will have taken getting from West Baden to Hindostan Falls.
I'm in so far! This year has been very eventful but maybe the storm is finally over. I recruited a young lad to day @ my "go to" shop/dealer. He just purchased a 1100 02' Spirit. Got some other buds to drag along. Maybe 3 additional bikes and they're all damn Yamahas! Hopefully I won't have tow any of them back home. >
Now the back north route, take 56 east to SR 135 and ride the "Mini Dragon" back north thru Story and coming out on SR 46 outside Nashville.

That would be about a 10 mi. stretch from SR46 to Story but the last time I made that run from SR 56 the road was getting a little patchy but not bad. I'd say they done the whole route.
The c&s is being used all over the state. This is Gov. Pence's frugal resurfacing program. He just adapting a process that countys use quite frequently on their rural roads that is when they decide YOU need it. My stretch of road looked like the Ho Chi Mein until cold weather then they decided to fill them in. :-x

- I have ridden to an annaul rally in southern Indiania about 8 of the last 12 years. FOr this flat-lander midwesterner it has been great. Is 380 miles for me to get there.
- Rally based in Bedford. We stay at a small old motel that is away from the main hghway, on what is now the bussiness loop. Rosemount. Owner/manager is quite friendly. Room doors and parking lot is on backside away from road.
- I will see if I can find a link to some great maps that show some great mo'cykle ride routes. Maps produced by the organizer of the rally (GS Resources, 70s - 80s Suzukis)

I have ridden the 450 from Shoals to Bedford. It's a fun little ride. Lots of twisters and good scenery. Some of it feels like you are in a tree tunnel for a while. I keep forgetting about that road. I need to get back up there again.
My original plan was to meet up in Paoli, IN at a BBQ restaurant, grab some lunch and then head to West Baden, and to Hindostan. After that I was open to any ideas. To be clear, I have never eaten at this place and know exactly nothing about it other than it's location. On Google maps it is just west of downtown Paoli on 56/150, It's called Porky's BBQ.
The date is Sept. 3rd, I figured we could meet up around 11 am at the BBQ place.
I'm open to other's ideas, was just wanting to have a ride closer to members from the south as we rode further north last year in Brown County.
Ok, will call you later this afternoon when I get home from work. Funny... I had kicked around the idea of leaving work early on Friday and heading down myself, since I'm on vacation the following week.
Hey guys, I've been checking in here and been waiting to see if these plans work out. I was thinking of driving down (truck) to have lunch with you all if you'll have me. Would be great to meet up with you all and shake some hands.
That would simplify matters greatly, Tom! You see, I had planned to meet you and shake your hand, by hook or by crook. So if you show up and have lunch with us during the Indiana ride, it will keep us from having to track you down!
Ok all, just got off the phone with Gnarly. We talked and he had a suggestion on a different route to take that looks interesting.
As of now we would still meet up in Paoli but would take 150 west toward West Baden, then on up to Shoals. At Shoals we would pick up 450 which winds around north/northeast ending up in Bedford. Supposedly 450 is considered one of the best motorcycle routes in Indiana. I suppose we could then take 37 south out of Bedford to Mitchell, and jump on 60 headed west which connects to 50 and on into Shoals. From there anyone heading back north could take 150 to Loogootee and jump on 231 back north, and our southern brothers could head back south.
Sorry for the changes but I/we are trying to make this as easy/convenient for everyone since some will be coming from the north, and some from the south. Appreciate everyone's input on this proposed new route.
God, I hope the weather cooperates... Looking forward to this!
