Too bad, that is a really nice spot.
The affected area is north of Asheville by a good bit. We've been talking about southward rides, so it won't directly affect us. But it will mess up anyone who was planning to take the BRP down from the north. It looks like it will be easy enough to get around, but you'll have to be off the BRP between the two closest access points, maybe 30 miles total IIRC. -Glenn |

Sounds like a fun little re-route on the second day for me.

Go all the way down to the NC 80 that the article talks about, you will LOVE that road. Twisty after twisty, 3 turns that are more than 180 degrees. In a truck you can almost look back and see your tag number.
Going south after Craggy Gardens down hill to Asheville there's not much too look at anyway.

info for those coming in from the north end of the BRP, the detour at blowing rock is no big deal. every well marked and i actually enjoyed the ride. it goes into the city of boone, great place to grab a bite to eat and refuel. i haven't rode the detour at craggy garden yet, but if the detour is on highway 80 it's got to be fun.

if you are coming north from ashville the detour will take you up 80. when you get to the BRP it is worth the trip to go south to get to mt. mitchell. it's not too far of a back track if your ain't push for time.
