How much oil to put in.?

Hi, I have a 2000 Honda shadow Sabre VT1100.. I just changed my oil and filter And now after i run it for a few Min. and then check the level on the dip stick, It shows its just a little over full..am i ok?

It would be hard to get that little bit back out if i must..so do i, or is it fine.

Thank, dbiddle.

I did put in at first what the book said too..And it did not even read on the dip stick..So i think im about a 1/2 qt, over at the most.

So now it shows its a little over the full mark line..Like i said about a 1/2 qt.. And thats after i shut it off and check it with the bike stright up.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it is way over the full mark. 1/8 inch or a bit more is nothing to be concerned about.
I presume you ran the engine for a few minutes, shut it off, waited for about 5 minutes and then checked with the bike upright.

Ya know, I may have gotten too particular over time about the oil level being over the Full Line at all, but that particularity was informed by what I read to be the consensus on this forum that it should not be over filled at all. When I need to take a little out I just unscrew the oil filter a little and dribble out a couple ounces at a time. Not hard at all. Jon

How was the dipstick positioned to get the reading? Did you screw it in or let it set on top of the opening?

Possible not all the old engine oil drained out?

I fill mine by what the manual says and its spot on every time.

If my memory serves me correctly on the 2000 plus years with too much oil the Sabre Tick raised it's ugly head, I know on my 2002 I have had some ticking and usually kept the oil about 1/2 way between the two marks and that seemed to help, now that I use Synthetic Oil no more tick but I still keep the level between the two marks..........I think it's just a preference with these engines..........

I use an turkey injector to pull oil out if I over fill. It works well.
Just get someone to hold it level and pull a little out.

Reading the topic, the word dipstick came to mind. I just fill mine to the top.
