Do you have to remove the exhaust pipe to install these? I can't get the top bolt in this picture loose. http://home.comcast.net/~retrocruise...rashbars01.jpg What's the name of that bolt anyway? It's a long bar, If I had to guess I'd guess it's to pivot the engine for some reason.

The upper bolt in your picture is the forward engine mounting bolt. it looks to me like the lower bolt in your picture goes through the frame and onto the nutplate the forms the forward engine mount. Yes, you will probably have to remove the exhaust pipe, but I am just looking at your picture and I can see how the guard attachs. It is a long bolt, you will find the nut on the right side.

I was able to do it without removing the exhaust. It took a few beers and a lot of bad words. I loosened the exhaust and had just enough space to do it.

I've got access to a bunch of highway bars that have a little rust ... But I'll see what my friend wants for em ... They will take some work ... But if you have the ingenuity, and the willingness to do the work ... I'm pretty sure they'll be really cheap ...

You CAN get the engine guards made for a 1999 Shadow Sabre to work (on the VT700/750s). It takes a little tweaking and ingenuity, but you can pick them up dirt-cheap (I paid $30 NIB) if you're savvy.

Mr. Hammond. Clean bike you have. Thats about what I'm shooting for on my 83 restore. I have some bags like that as well but mine has been neglected. Gotta find some leather miracle in a bottle. Ha. Where would one find some grips like yours? Nice. I don't see a lot of Diff from the 83 to the 84. Good luck with your bars.

Would you care to share some details and photos, showing how this can be done? I'm looking for a way to get some highway bars installed on my 1986 Shadow 750.

Thanks
Markus
