could someone with factory crash bars on an 83-85 vt700c post some pics of how and where they mount? they seem to be impossible to find, so i might try to have some made but im not sure how or where they mount. maybe a close up pic from each side and a pic showing the shape of it. no real hurry, we have bout 6" of snow sub-zero wind chills
thanks
Here are some pictures of the crash bars on my 84 VT700c, these are not your ordinary loop with a center mount crash bars, these are multi-bend welded together bars.
thanks to all who replied and sent me pics, i got the crash bar installed and now just waiting for these pegs, they wer shipped yeserday
will post new sig pic soon!
bad pic of the pegs, they have HONDA stamped on them.
Good luck finding the bars. I searched for a year - almost daily on Kijiji and Ebay. Ended up putting Kuryukan longhorn pegs directly on the frame: Longhorn Arm with ISO-Pegs | Küryakyn
I saw other 86 700C's with a Highway bar, but could never find them. I did have the same HONDA pegs on my Nighthawk and liked them a lot!

Excellent find. Thanks for the compliment on the bike. If the bike was a bit more sideway, you would notice my bags are backwards too! As soon as I get it from the back to the front of the garage, i will post pick of the pegs . . .
Do you have to remove the exhaust pipe to install these? I can't get the top bolt in this picture loose. http://home.comcast.net/~retrocruiser/pix/crashbars01.jpg What's the name of that bolt anyway? It's a long bar, If I had to guess I'd guess it's to pivot the engine for some reason.
The upper bolt in your picture is the forward engine mounting bolt. it looks to me like the lower bolt in your picture goes through the frame and onto the nutplate the forms the forward engine mount. Yes, you will probably have to remove the exhaust pipe, but I am just looking at your picture and I can see how the guard attachs. It is a long bolt, you will find the nut on the right side.
I was able to do it without removing the exhaust. It took a few beers and a lot of bad words. I loosened the exhaust and had just enough space to do it.
I've got access to a bunch of highway bars that have a little rust ... But I'll see what my friend wants for em ... They will take some work ... But if you have the ingenuity, and the willingness to do the work ... I'm pretty sure they'll be really cheap ...
You CAN get the engine guards made for a 1999 Shadow Sabre to work (on the VT700/750s). It takes a little tweaking and ingenuity, but you can pick them up dirt-cheap (I paid $30 NIB) if you're savvy.
Mr. Hammond. Clean bike you have. Thats about what I'm shooting for on my 83 restore. I have some bags like that as well but mine has been neglected. Gotta find some leather miracle in a bottle. Ha. Where would one find some grips like yours? Nice. I don't see a lot of Diff from the 83 to the 84. Good luck with your bars.
Would you care to share some details and photos, showing how this can be done? I'm looking for a way to get some highway bars installed on my 1986 Shadow 750.
The ones I got on ebay work great, but they are cheap chrome and have rusted BADLY! I think i may remove them and either have them re chromed or possibly coated with a black matte??
Wow, 6 year old thread resurrection, but for what it's worth I have the set I took off my '83 VT750 that I'll be putting on eBay soon. I scored a NOS one still in the factory plastic and put it on. The old ones show their age and are pretty worn, but they're serviceable. I would've painted them black had my bike not had the full Hondaline chrome kit on it.
