85 VT500C Choke Cable Discontinued...

Just found out the choke cable for my 85 VT500C is no longer available from Honda and the local dealerships can't find an aftermarket cable. Luckily, one of the dealership parts guys suggested contacting Barnett Cables. Guy at Barnett says they can custom make the cable for around $40 + shipping. Sent me a drawing of one for an 83 VT500 & it appears that it will work, or he said I can send my old one in for them to go by. I was beginning to think I was really in a mess.

When you get it take pictures, post the contact info on here, hopefully the mods would make that info a sticky.


As of now I'm on the lookout for used cables if one needs replaced....

I'm quite interested to see how this turns out!

They do good work, I'd send them the old one to work with, take a couple of pictures before you send it out and also measure it.............I got a new stainless brake line form them..........

There is a NOS cable on ebay right now. $40, free shipping....so not much cheaper but you know it'll work.

You might be able to do this much cheaper by getting a bicycle brake/shifter repair kit and just running a new cable-core through your old external casing.

Have a look at the choke cable. That wouldn't work.

Yep, called 3 local dealerships...shows up on all the parts fiche sites, but all said it was discontinued & no longer available. Couldn't find aftermarket cable either. One of the dealership parts guys is who recommended Barnett.
