Hello all,
Im new here and am in need of some help. On the '86 Honda Shadow 700 there are wires and plugs under the tach and mph guages. I have the wiring diagram. The diagram states that the plug is a 15 pin plug (which is correct) but only has 11 wires going to it. I need to know what wire goes to what pin. If someone has an '86 Shadow that is working properly, they would just need to take off the panel and look at the plug to tell me what color wire goes where. I would greatly appreciate it. The wiring diagram says its the red plug but mine is black. The wires in the plug are Lb O G/Y W/G Br/W Br/W B B/W Bu/W Y/R B/R That is the order the wiring diagram says they should be in as well but i dont know where to skip or how many pins to skip. Thanks Again! |

Welcome to the group!
What are you plugging this connector into? If you have the mating connector, can't you just follow the color combination of the wires on that? The color of the wires on one plug will be the colors of the wires on the opposite plug. --Justin

They plug into a distribution box so there is no easy way to track the wires. I had to break down and buy a whole new plug and wires. Here is the wire to pin numbers for anyone else that may be having the same problem. It is a 15 pin plug. The dashes (-) indicate a pin with no wire going to it.
O W/G Lb - B B/W G/Y - - Y/R B/R Bu/W Br/W - Jumper Br/W - Jumper - Hope this helps. If this info was out there before It would have saved me 3 days and $80. |

If you had clarified what you were trying to do, I may have been able to save you 3 days and $80, being that my 1986 VT700 is currently parked 6 feet from my computer.
Either way, glad you got it working! --Justin

Thanks anyway. I was getting frustrated with everyone telling me to "trace the wires." It was my stupid mistake in taking the wires out and thinking I could remember where they went. Thanks though. So now I have an extra right-hand control assembly for an 86 VT700 if anyone is in search of one. LOL
