Hi. I am new to the site. I just bought my first Honda Shadow. I have a question about the oil. The man I bought it from said he recently changed the oil using Rotella T6 5w-40 Synthetic. I looked it up and it says it's an energy saving oil. My manual says not to use energy saving. Does anyone else use this oil? Any problems? Please let me know!!!!

to the hoard.I haven't used it, but maybe others here have. I've always used Honda's full synthetic, but I've heard you should never use energy saving oil from some and others have said they do without any problems. I feel it's best to err on the safe side and not worry, especially if your bike is still under warranty. The engine oil also lubricates the clutch and some oils can cause slippage. Martin |

I believe the round label on the oil you don't want to use is "Energy Conserving"
If you look again on the Rotella site it says: • Energy saving – fuel-economy performance* NO energy conserving label I use it in both my bikes without issue as well as many riders here, you're good to go.

I've been using it for two years and shell rotella T dino before that and I have never had a problem and this thread will grow with confirmations of this. If you have slipping with any oil usually swapping it out for another oil will fix the situation without any repairs.

Ok, great. I may change the oil just to be on the safe side. Here is the link that I was given about the oil. Take a look at it and let me know if judging by this everything looks ok. I just want a little expertise to look at it.

I have an '05 Aero and the manual states "Do not use oils with graphite or molybdenum additives. They may adversely affect clutch operation. Do not use API SH or higher oils displaying a circular API "energy conserving" service label on the container. They may affect lubrication and clutch performance."
If you're not having any problems, then I guess you're ok, but I would go by the book just to be sure. -Aero-Force |
