I am not very hands on and looking for advice on mounting hardware. I want to attach this metal box to the underside of the bar. I was thinking some sort of plate on op and bolt that to the box. I am looking for stuff I can find at hardware store, nothing fabed up. Any ideas appreciated.

I'll take a stab at it. First of all, what is it? Looks like audio/electronic equipment (radio?). Can it take the bouncing/vibration? If not, it will need to be tightly attached with some rubber isolation to limit it. Also weather/water will be a factor.
You are mounting under which means that your mounting has too fully support the weight of the box, as well as keeping it from moving around. If you are handy with sheet metal, I would recommending getting some from home depot and building a box enclosure for it (bends and pop rivets only). Put thin rubber padding (like used for kitchen drawers) to limit vibration. Drill holes in your home-made box to secure the item using it's screw holes (4 visible in the picture). Drill holes for any wiring and use grommets to keep the weather out. Secure your home-made box to the rack, I would drill holes and use nut/bolt. Also, I would leave a slight gap to prevent vibration, maybe put some rubber padding between. Finally, paint or finish the box for weather protection (rustoleum paint is the best). That would be my recommendation. Others may have better ideas. |

Its a computer CD rom case with guts pulled out. The vt500c has very little space to put anything so I want to put my amp in the box, seal it up, leave air holes and route the wires up front under seat to speakers at the front. Thanks for the ideas, I am going towards sheet metal top and bottom then 4 bolts with washers to fit it together. The amp would be water proof, out of the way.

Put the amp in a zip lock bag with a hole for the wires and seal it with silicone. The like others said, cover it with black vinyl like your seat so it blends in with the rest of the bike. You can buy the seat material made for boat seats (in various colors) at any fabric store or apolstery shop.
It would look better than painting the box in my opinion.
