No that's probably not the hole saw mod, and if if was, it wouldn't make it run that way. People often do crap like that to make it louder.

This guy is correct. When you clean the jets be sure to spray brake cleen in from the intake back down TO the jets and float bowl, otherwise you are just pushing whatever the carb sucked up deeper in to the jets. |

I did that and sprayed compressed air in it. I used carb cleaner instead of brake cleen though. I rode it today and after a nice 50 mile ride it seems to be doing better somewhat. It does ok except taking off is still not the easiest, but it doesn't stall anymore. The PO poured seafoam in the gas, so it might have been too much of a ratio haha. It's only having a sputtering problem in the lower rpm's like if I ride with low rpm's at a cruising speed, so I try to avoid that. Another symptom I've noticed is every so often it will backfire through the carb, I can feel it on the air breather on my leg. Is that another symptom of not getting enough gas? I can ride it with the choke off now also. I also turned up the idle, so that may be what is causing it to run a little better. Still waiting on my stupid parts from Ron Ayers. I could have bought the from the dealership and had them by now.

...I have a 2005 shadow aero vt750c (single carb 35mm) and was having a similar problem...
#1.. the factory sets those carbs up way to lean (probably for emissions) the pilot (mixture screw) is not backed out far enough and if the jets are dirty it will increase fuel starvation. #2 ..I recently installed a DynoJet kit. (adjustable needle, slide spring and larger main jet). I set the clip on the 3rd groove down on the needle and adjusted the pilot screw (mixture) 3 turns out from lightly seated. #3..Now it is a different bike....runs like an overhead cam 3 valve per cylinder 2 plugs per cylinder engine should....starts easier (even at 35 degree outside temp) more low end grunt and better low and high end performance. and I haven't even put real good fuel in it yet. #4..I have stock pipes on it and it performs well..considering putting aftermarket pipes on but might not need to. #5..Your problem is probably the mixture setting. |
