Default Help removing left side crankcase cover 83 750

rrrrgh. I am trying to pull my starter off - couldn't do it without removing the crankcase cover and pulling the starter drive gear. Anyway, I have removed all bolts, and the cover will not budge. Any ideas on how to get this thing off?

First, make sure you've got all the bolts. It seems to me that when I pulled my cover, there were some difficult to see bolts around the clutch slave cylinder or on the lower edge. Then just tap tap tap with a hammer around the side of the cover. Not hard enough to break the housing, just keep at it gently until it breaks free. You'll hear it more than see it when it does -- the tapping will take on a dull tone rather than the crisp tone it has at first.

I just removed mine this last week. I found the rubber gasket around the shifter held it pretty tight. I had to use a large screwdriver and a prybar with a slight hook on it to catch one of the tabs to pry it out a little. Then I was able to put a standard screwdriver in the gap and twist it a little to move it more. I tapped and tapped at first and nothing budged for me at first to no avail.

+1 on both above post's.

Stator magnets hold it on sometimes, but that's usually after it's loose...seems that not quite where you are as of yet....so, IDK, check all the bolt's again. Tap in many different places....... different directions as well.

+1 on using the pry tab and a large screwdriver, just pulled mine yesterday, gasket was pretty stubborn.

got it loose - but here's the catch now. My footpeg is in the way - and I can not for the life of me get the bolts off there. I'm afraid I will strip them - and dog gone if they are not metric but standard! I think I'm going to have to grind them off - or remove the coolant hose and some other pump just to get a socket on them. *&@#$##@ bolts.

Those aren't bolts. They're nuts on studs. Hehe. I am pretty sure mine were 14mm. Yup. Just went out and checked to make sure. 14mm

I didn't have to remove anything. They are at an angle and kinda tight fit around them, but I used a closed end wrench. They are at an angle also. I had an oil leak around that area, so that might have made it easier.
