Im wondering if I could use the stator off of an 86 vt500 or vt1100 on a vt700. Ive found a couple good deals on stators for these two bikes and if they will fit and work properly, Id like to buy. Anyone know?

Find your stator listed in the Dennis Kirk catolog and find how which other bikes it will work on and that should give you the answer. There are different diameters and bolt hole configurations, so not all of them will fit your bike. Also, so put out more power than others, so you have to take that into consideration also. If you are having charging problems with the old stator, the voltage regulator may also need to be changed, because they also burn out from time to time. You need to check it with a multi-meter to see if it's working properly.
Another idea is to call the after market manufacturer and see if they have the demensions and compare the other stators to yours. I know the Dennis Kirk people helped me find parts from other bikes that fit on my bike, when they weren't made for my particular model., but they still fit.
