1995 Shadow Spirit VT1100C. I had a throttle cable (pull) come loose while I was riding yesterday. I have never looked at this area of the bike with any detail before so I essentially was inspecting this area for the first time. The cable had come loose down by the cam that is housed on the side of the carb. I thought I had it all put back together correctly and ready to ride but now my throttle in both directions is very tight and will not snap back if I let off the hand throttle (pull). I am wondering if I have a sticky cable. With no cables attached, the carb is operating as it should, opens and snaps back. I was also wondering if I reinstalled the return spring on the throttle cable cam by rotating the spring clockwise until there was tension on the spring and then placing it on the shaft. I ordered a new push cable because it looked like the original on it (1995), with thin braided cable and did not move well if I coiled the cable up in a few loops. Does this sound like I am on the right track here?

Sounds like you may need to lube the throttle cables. There is a small clamp type of device you can buy that slips on the the spot where the inner and outer cable components meet. It has a small hole that you can insert the straw from a can of spray lubricant. Don't forget to check the throttle grip as well. It could use a squirt under the cylinder of the hand grip as well. Make sure you check the routing of the cables too so there are no turns with sharp bends. Good luck, keep us posted.

Well I rerouted the cables a bit after taking off the suspect cable and thoroughly lubing it with some gun lube until it ran out out the other end. It's back on the road but still going to replace the cable for 0 reasons, 1 it still is not smoothly traveling like I think it should and 2 I already ordered a replacement!!!

Yeah, being as it is a 1995 unit, I`d replace them both...
I`d hang onto the old cables to use as "Spare" cables... What`s $40 when it comes to trouble free/worry free riding??? The "pull" cable broke on me once, and I hadto ride 30 miles with a "Dennis Rig" operation to get to a shop to replace it... You don`t wanna hafta figure out a way to get "home" because a cable snapped!!!
