But anyway, if you ever come by, let me know. I'll get the Piper Cub out and we'll fly along that coast line. Almost as good as riding the bike

Hallo my little friend......Wow awesome video. Love the palm trees, but the most beautiful thing in the whole video is your bike my friend (of course right after your daughter - I have one too). So where is the snow ??? When I look at my bike now, I just want to cry. Yours is absolutely minty and because grown man do not cry, I am going to have a drink.
PS: in the few post back you replaced the steering stem bearings. I have looked at mine and ring is turning just by hand. I noticed some play in it when I brake and maybe I should change it. Could you let me know what bearing did you use ? Once again, I bow before the restoration master......

Nice ride Czech, I'm riding an 84 vt700c myself with mac exhausts on it, looks a lot like yours. what kind of bags are those?
Also this thread is absolute gold for beginner mechanics like myself. A lot of very, very useful material in here and good motivational pictures! Thanks luis for taking the time to post all of your hard work. |

No snow around here. I have to climb to the highest mountain to see some snow. Regarding the restoration, I can assure you that I'm no master at this. I'm sure everyone would have done the same level of work if they wasted as much money in it as I did. To be able to restore one of this bikes on a tight budget, as some are doing, that's a Master trick. The way I did it is the ea$y way. As I told once to Mattyo, I have a pile of bills for all the parts and third party work but have no courage to add them to see how much it costed. Anyway, I hope all this investment will last a long time of enjoyment and that others may be inspired by my log to do the same. It is a great feeling of accomplishment to restart an engine after you had all those parts scattered around. Regarding the bearing, it's this one: 22-1011 All Balls Racing I have posted a video with the full report on how I did it. The bearings are not very high quality but they are very well suited for the job. If I could get the dust guards and the spacers, I would have bought a better one from a specialty shop. And it would be much cheaper. The upper race protrudes about 3 or 4 mm from the top of the neck but it all works fine in the end. The handling has improved tremendously, even when compared with the original working setup. I don't understand why Honda didn't do it in the first place. Seems like some of the newer bikes already have this type of roller bearing in the steering stem. Looking at your bike pics it looks like it is in really good shape. And now, my friend, if you are going to have a drink, cheers. |

Thanx for the info Luis. I will get all the parts and start in the spring (which is May around here). Actually the pic of my bike looks much better that actual bike but I'll take the compliment. I do not have any leaks, but I get lots of pop on decel and few other minor issues.
So here is cheers to your new (old) ride Mike

Thanx man. Wish I could tell you more about those bags, but I got them of ebay. Little bit of elbow greese and custom made brackets and they look like $300 bux bags. Yes this thread and the whole forum is awesome.
