The bike doesn't seem to behave any differently that I can tell, but I recently left my key in the ignition and on for about 15 minutes by mistake, had to get the bike towed, then hooked up a trickle charger for a few hours and everything was fine (battery still had juice, just not enough to turn the starter.)
I ran it for a few rounds around the block revving and keeping the RPM's on the high side of things for a while after that, however, now the sound coming out of the exhaust is consistently quieter (like actually muffled,) as of my last startup. I have had this happen on the freeway at high rpm's, just never immediately after a cold start. Basically, should I be concerned? And more hopefully, does anyone know why/how this might have happened? I liked the louder noise, made me more visible. Thanks in advance! (And yes, I know I was dumb to have left the key in the ignition, no need to rub it in.) |

Since you don't say what kind of bike, I'll assume its a Shadow.. Are BOTH cylinders firing?

Sorry, Honda Shadow Spirit 750C2, I would assume both cylinders are firing as I didn't experience any power loss and didn't hear any pinging or other noise that would lead me to believe that one had stopped firing consistently.

NEVER assume.... Could be weak inconsistant spark. Due to Weak battery. The sound change will either be a dead cylinder, spark or fuel. Could be broken exhaust, but not likely.

First action should be to determine if BOTH cylinders and all plugs are firing and not fouled.
Second action should be to have the battery load tested.

Forgive my ignorance, being new to motorcycles and not having a whole lot of experience in mechanics, but how would I go about ensuring that both cylinders are firing? (Any specific tools I should have to do so?) I'm all about learning, especially on the fly, it's essentially what I do for work.

Easyway is to start the bike. Then dissconect 1 plug at a time. What happens?

Easier way is to start the bike and feel the pipes..if one is cold ....
