So, I've done some research into lowering my bike. This spring I plan on getting the progressive springs for the front and lowering it a bit. For the rear I'm kind of torn... I'd like to get some shorter progressives, but not sure if I can swing that budget wise with new tires and the front springs... So I'm looking at some of these lowering links/kits. I see some available, but they are for the "spirit", which mine is, but its the older style.
Has anyone done this to the older spirits?

This from the Scootworks site:
VT-1100 Spirit REAR Lowering Kit - Along with our other Scootworks rear lowering kits, this kit has been in high demand for some time. Scootworks developed and released this kit originally in February '06. These kits have the same great features as our Spirit/Ace/Aero 750 lowering kits: easy installation, retention of your OEM shocks for a great ride, available for 1-1/2" of lowering in the rear, and is an easily reversible modification. CAD designed, CNC and lazer cut TIG welded steel components, and a durable black finish for long lasting performance. This design modifies the lever ratio of the shock, and has been done since the mid-70's by many manufacturers. We have literally thousands of kits in the field using exactly this technology, and have never had a single failure, so it's a time tested and proven method of safely lowering your bike. **NOTE** This kit is compatible with all VT-1100 SPIRIT motorcycles equipped with a DRUM-type rear brake (NOT rear disc brake!). It also works with all known other VT-1100 models that were equipped with a DRUM-type rear brake... This includes _some_ Ace/Shadow/Aero 1100's, but be sure to check your bike, as some models had a rear disc while others had a rear drum. It looks like it fits all 1100 drum brake Shadows. I guess it depends if you want to throw $125.00 at it. That's $83 per inch. Collector

For $125, I could drop $75 more, lower it and get upgraded suspension...

Also depends on how much you want to lower it.
Rear shocks will only get 1/2-3/4". Bracket gets about 1 1/2". Front can be lowered up to 2" with set of progressive springs, possibly more. BUT, remember the lower it is the slower and wider you have to turn. Not to mention speed bumps and driveways. Also you need to have some room between the rear tire and fender, for the suspension to move in.

I'm not looking to lower it too too much. I think 3/4 in the rear and maybe 1 in the front would be fine with me. It's more the front I want... I just think it looks too high...

Slide the triple trees down the fork a little. SO the fork slides stick out of the top of the trees. You can lower the front up to 1" that way, easy. Levels the bike real good. More is possible, up to 2", IF you stiffen the forks up. Could try heavier oil, longer spacers or progressive springs or a combination OF them, to prevent bottoming. In the rear you might go with progressive 11.5" shocks, if you want to do the rear also.
