Realistically speaking, How often, if ever, should I have to check, tighten, or true my spokes. This is my first bike that had spokes. Well thats not true. My SL-70 had spokes. But for a real bike, yeah. I have heard many things from never to every time I ride.

I have never had an issue with my spokes, I thump them for sound, hard to describe what tone to listen for, but the correct sound indicates that the spokes are ok. Kinda like a trucker thumping his tires with a billy. (I use a finger thump on the spokes.)

Welcome to the wonderful world of wind in your face.
I agree with old dad. They are like guitar strings and if there is tension on them and you tap them with an allen wrench or something similar, you will get a tone from them. If you tap one and don't get anything then it is not under tension. Ride Safe!
