If its leaking on that crimped section you more than likely have a bigger issue in the tank, More than likely its rotting out from the inside and that drop is the start. It sucks but I would search for another tank and reseal the new one because it also will be vintage like your bike. The old shadows are great bikes but parts can be tough at times.

That's good/bad news. But it's always a relief to find out what is wrong.
How about this: JB Weld | World's Strongest Bond

Stuff isn't cheap but just found one on eBay in decent shape for $120, a few cheaper but have dents, this one has scratches but you'll paint to match anyway so that shouldn't matter.

hmmmm......leaking gas dripping on the engine ...remind me not to be your passenger anytime soon

I would buy a new (used) tank as the guys are suggesting here...

Well the temp here is around 28F and she will not start....so my season is officially over.

Hey Luis, JB-Weld did cross my mind but I don't think it will actually stop the leak. Probably just cause the fuel to find somewhere else to leak through. It looks like there's a 2 inch strip on the crimped edge that is leaking. The whole crimped seam is probably rusting out.

Thanks for the link, Dauntae!

I do actually have another fuel tank off my parts bike. The PO had sanded it down and primed it and then never finished the job. The inside is rusty as all h3ll so it's going to take a little work to restore. I was hoping for a temporary quick fix so I could ride for another month. But actually the leak isn't that bad so I'll probably just ride "as is" until it gets too cold for me to handle. Fixing up the other tank will be a good winter project.

Czech! I'm still basking in the warmth of 35-40F. The old beast is still firing up for me.

@ Rock, I don't want to start the debate here, but I remember reading a few Kreem related threads. It sounds like some people love it, others hate it. I'll have to do a little more research when the time comes.

Please do not use Kreem. It does not hold up well. I have seen a few tanks with the liner coming off and it is a PAIN to fix after that. I have used POR-15 POR15, Inc. - Stop Rust Permanently - Repair Gas & Fuel Tanks with great success and I recently read that Caswell Plating has a system that is not affected by ethanol Epoxy Gas Tank Sealer - Restoration Aids - Caswell Inc I think is the one. I'm thinking about trying the Caswell on my next one.

I have Kreemed my auxiliary (reserve) tank. Hope it won't flake because I will only notice that when it stops.

Yep, the other thread I read pretty much concluded with POR-15 being the "correct" choice (or put more passively, the less statistically problematic choice?). Not to start a debate, but that's what I've read thus far.

Side note, VHT "engine enamel" claims to be resistant to gasoline, but obviously that claim does not include the 10% ethanol flavor of gasolines. So where my gas is leaking out the fuel tank and dripping on my engine fins.... AND the paint has started bubbling up and pealing off some of the fins now. I don't want to hear any comments from "razor" about BBQ black! LOL!

D@mn you, fuel tank leak!!!! I rebuild an awesome engine and now a stupid fuel tank leak is destroying my paint job!! Oh well, live and learn. I'm still learning. LOL!
