Oil is at lower line: 1/4 Quart then recheck. You don't need to go to upper line. If you are not using/losing/burning oil between changes I would only fill to between the two lines and try to hit the middle as it is very bad to overfill or underfill.

Open a bottle of oil and fill it until it says full. You can only buy oil in quart bottles any way, unless you want a jug of it.

Thanks GDB.. That's just what I needed...it's not burning any, but oil changes are a PIA w/ Honda's..especially if u have to do the work outside..very tough to see the oil line on the dipstick in the sunlight...and if the bike is titled at all, the reading is different....I do love this bike but the engineer who designed how the oil is checked should be shot

I use a 2x4 to prop up the bike when I check the oil. Works great!

On my 750 I usually sit on the bike so it is level and then reach over. Oil should be between the dipstick lines but does not have to be accurate. I use a small funnel and just pour in a bit and recheck.

In the old days there was no dip stick: just an inspection cap or a glass window and the only way to see the level was if the oil was black or open a drain plug and if none came out it was low and if some spilled out it was full.

I've been known to curse engineers on more than one occasion but this is pretty simple stuff here, whether your're changing or just checking the oil.
