Default 83VT500C melted junction box

My 83 VT500C has had it's ups and downs. The latest, greatest down is the junction box under the headlight has mostly melted. The little strips of metal that join multiple wires (why they garbled this whole mess in there anyway is beyond me) melted and then melted the plastic all around it.

Soooo, can I just solder the connections together and not have to ever worry about it, or do I need to buy another junction box, and hope this problem doesn't happen again? It has melted enough that the entire box is trash.

I know I have to find the problem with why it melted in the first place, but while going through the wires figuring that part out, I might as well "down-wire" the bike. Basically make the wiring cleaner get rid of the current gaggle of wiring under the tank/seat.

Thanks for any help!
