Default VT500 bogs down, no matter how much gas I give it

Hi All 85 VT 500 - 45 minutes city driving fine. Fill tank.
Then doing 70-75 fine for 25 miles or so, then
No matter how much gas I give it. Smoked a bit. Keeps slowing down.
Pulled over, died, wouldn't start. Waited 20 minutes hard to start, then started
Down the road & bogging again. How do I tell between coil ~ CDI ~ gas flow problem. Out on side of road right now.
TIA
Jack

Coolant tank 1/3 full, but radiator dry. Water
Shot out on leg, wasn't hot. Tank looks split.
Think the coils for running

I would lean toward fuel. Sounds like maby running real rich (choke out?) and fouled plugs. Was it smoking from both sides? 20 mins. to start, sounds about like the right time for flooded engine to recover. That's the best I got. Hope you made it home OK. Good luck, and don't forget to check the simple stuff first.

You may want to disregard my previous post. Radiator empty changes the game. It's a tough engine, it may well survive overheating. Just gotta find out why. Good luck.

Hi All. Will check plugs later. Took coolant tank protector off.
Tightened reservoir cap, put old rad cap back on, now leaking at
top hose going into radiator. Putting screw clamp on that connection.
Still thinking a hot coil. Pine sol Ed carbs, but may have to take it apart.
TIA
Jack

HI All,
Got home safe, driving the bike, YAY ! Cooling system not leaking right now. Right pipe smoked a little bit, maybe 15 or 20 seconds.
Will clean gas tank vent pinhole, and hose, will check petcock and it's screen.
Will spray around carbs and tighten the screw bands, if needed. Moved carb vent hose to under seat, already installed a new gas filter.
I have already run 3 cans of Berryman's B-12 thru the gas tank. Right after B-12, starts right up 1 or 2 5 second pushes on starter, idles smoothly. Now hard to start, won't idle, and will die if not being revved up. The 2 easy plugs look good.

Ok OK, have to clean the carbs, I am nervous about taking them apart.
Love riding my bike, not so happy with troubleshooting.
Tickled pink
Jack

HI All,
Since this post, changed out engine, new coils installed, flushed coolant system, swapped water pump, installed AGM battery for a 700. Idle wont hold, and a n oil leak, bu tridable
