Default Found throt bog prob. no what?- air box

'84 VT 700 >>After 2 carbs and many cleanings, even though I have oiled my filter, I find that if if partially block the air intake on the air box with a rag, it solves the prob. So ride with a rag stuffed in my box or ??

thanks

Your not going to get very good mileage with a rag stuck in there. Your better off to fix it right and make it run like it's supposed to. Your jetted too lean or something is seriously plugged up in the carbs.

Default which jets?

So I'm pretty sure the carb is clean. Which jets would I need to change?
I have some extra ones that I can drill if that is what it needs.
Thanks

Modified intake? Modified exhaust? If you got either or both you must jet accordingly. May require a bit of research on your part. Good luck with the project.

Check for air leaks at the carb boots. cracks and just leaks can do this. Is the air cleaner stock? you said that you oiled it and I was under the impression that most were paper. If foam did you use the right kind of oil? I changed my paper to uni foam and have found I need 2 layers of foam to keep it as happy as the paper.

Yes it has modified pipes and paper filter with foam . It was running fine until it sat up and I re-cleaned/soaked the carb. never has come back. got a second carb and pretty much the same. it has 120 and 40 jets.
Compression good.
fuel pump full flow.
float is set at 7.5mm -- should it be 7mm?
new float needles.
What is the correct oil for the foam?
I have found that if I disconect and reconect the fuel pump. It doesnt bog for a second. then goes back to bog.
I disconected the fuel pump and simply blew on the fuel line with some fuel in it( put positive pressure on it) and the same thing happens doesnt bog.
Any help please.

My manual says to use gear oil for the filter.

found on my VT600 that my fuel pump relay was acting up on/off
If I jump the two wires on the fuel pump relay, problem would go away, and fuel pump would pump fuel like it should. If the relay doesn't always work properly the fuel pump won't either, so right now I am riding with the fuel pump relay jumped, and looking again for another relay...not sure if that is part of your problem or not, but worth a mention I suppose - Terry
