I'm wondering where you guys are finding your carb parts? I'm sure someone out there has to have had to buy some and I'm looking for a cheap one lol. Can't find it on ebay, and all the parts websites either say obsolete, not available, or $105.81 lol. For a stupid little piece of plastic called the vacuum piston. It's going in a 1986 Honda Shadow VT700C.
Anyone that has any information on finding a cheap new one or even a used one in good condition would be very much appreciated. I don't mind as long as it's not like mine and has a cracked diaphram. Or with it being obsolete on most sites, are there any parts that are interchangeable with the model years? Like will one from a 83-87 work just the same? I don't want to blow a benjamin if I don't have to lol.

Alright, well I checked the spark plugs and they seemed to be a little black and sooty. So I replaced all of them, and the old ones didn't look gapped right. Checked their gap and they barely fit on the gapper ring that I got from O'Reilly's so they were gapped to small.
The ones I replaced them with I made sure and gapped them all to 0.9mm and it seemed to fix the backfiring problem, but now I'm back to hesitation in the throttle. This morning I took it back apart because I thought I'd check the float levels. One was at 8mm and the other was at like 7.1mm. I put them both to 7.5mm like the manual says, but I'm not going to put it back together until I make sure and check for some more information on here or just online. Anyone know if the float levels would make it act like it's bogging down when I go more than about 1/4 throttle? Also, it seems like the patch job that we did on the diaphram was holding up fairly well, but the one we didn't mess with seems to not be sliding easily in the slot that it goes into, is there anything you guys would recommend that I lubricate that with? Or should I just leave it alone?

also keep in mind diagnosing carbs is directly related to throttle position. at 1/4 if both cylenders are firing asume your pilots are ok (id set them at 3 1/4 turns out) and look towards your slow jets. make sure there is no deposits on your jet needles and use gasoline to clean the cv pistons (hopefully this will alow them to side better). also the path from the needle jet spiders off inside the carbs, make sure you blow these all out with compressed air. it took me 8 attempts to get mine cleanned out right last time.

Well after reading some stuff online yesterday, I realized that when I started it up the last time, the airbox wasn't attached, we still had it semi-torn down as we were checking stuff still. But I don't remember if the air box drip is capped or not. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of a drip tube if you cap it off?
