Default VT500 Power Chamber Removal

On the 83 VT500, the power chamber is pretty badly rusted. I was going to remove it and attach the mufflers to the header pipes. Will this require that require a re-jet even if I put the mufflers back on?

Cheers

I wouldn't think that it would need to.

I want to see what it looks like with what you are going to do.

I'll post up pics when I'm done. This is either going to work or I'm going to replace the whole thing with aftermarket and do a re-jet. So if I have to carve up the stock pipes, I'm ok with that.

Its gonna take some serious fab work on that left side muffler since it attaches at a 90 degree angle to the power chamber. Take note, when I ran just headers on mine I lost serious power.

If you're interested I have a set of MAC exhaust pipes for the vt500 i'd be willing to sell. They are slash cuts. Check my pics to see em if you want.

Yeah, wow I didn't even notice that. Hmm. I suppose some autozone pipe at a appropriate length could replace the power chamber. Just weld a 90 elbow into it at the other side. I'm going to try to patch the power chamber up as well. I'm happy with the sound and I don't really care about stripping the bike for weight. I'm mainly looking to just have a solid, properly sealed exhaust pathway.

Edit: Are those the wrapped pipes you're talking about in your pics?

Yup those are the ones. They have less than 400 miles on them.

One last thing, I'm gonna *attempt* to put the stock system back together after I clean it. The muffler is just too badly rusted to attempt any shop work on. Do I have to buy the OEM exhaust join gaskets or is there an aftermarket option? I couldn't find one on BikeBandit.

mine is rusty too. Imma about to do the same, but I'm stuck at dont know how to take it off since those screws hella rusty and will be stripped if I put the screwdriver in and twist it. If you're going to remove it, would you please post some pics of the process? I really appriciate it.
