Default 85 VT500 clutch won't disengage

HI All,
Clutch won't disengage. Took off cover, pipes, brake ,etc. Clutch cable at both points in middle, clutch arm moves just fine. Checked lever, bearing on lifter plate, bearings. Adjusted lifter plate out by loosening the 4 bolts, no clutch still, (after bolting everything back up). Will get washer to put on each spring to make it springier. Any ideas would be helpful, Bike runs well, starts up easy, except put in first gear, bike lurches/ dies . D'OH Read the !#$* out of the different clutch posts, but looking for the next item to check out.
Thanks.
Jack

Well if the parts outside the cases are OK then the issue is inside the case. Was the bike stored? Could be the cutch itself or the discs are frozen.

Hi need help please, Clutch frozen, engine running pushed bike downhill, popped 2 ndgear
Died, but restarted n had clutch. Till awful noise started. 1 bolt On lifter plate loosened & bent up.
Removed everything, replaced bolt, clutch plates in middle started rotating as I tightened Lifter plate all the way down. Is that normal ?
Pushed the running bike downhill, no power in any gear, rear turns a little bit & will rotate a tiny bit faster with lots of gas, on centerstand, but no power & all slack on clutch lever.
Thanks
Jack

Hi Gmck, yes the engine had been sitting awhile. Now clutch cable slack
& no power in any gear, bike doesn't move. believe the plates were stuck together.
Now I don't know what's going on.
Thanks
Jack

I had an issue with my clutch as well. Clutch would not disengage when shifting gears until I revved the engine. It also lurched when shifted into first gear. I changed the oil to GN4 from Rotella T6 and voila.. good as new. who knew I have been using the Rotella for a while. Clutch was replaced last year.
