Default 88 800 will go but it isn't pretty

So, I was having some back fire issues mainly on decel, since I shortened the pipes I thought I'd rejet. When I took off the carbs some gunk got in there so I went ahead and totally cleaned them. I got it all put back toge her and synced went to take off and as I did, I rolled on the throttle let out the clutch and it sputters and wants to die. I can baby it enough to get going, the speed will build, but the throttle is unresponsive thought the rpms will increase. There's no difference in power between full throttle and half, it's just un responsive though you can hear it rev a little. It will shift up to the next gear and do it all over again.. I thought maybe the jets were to big so I pulled the carbs again and put the original jets back in.. Everything back to stock and put back together and had the same result.. When in nutrel I can rev just fine.. I checked for leaks using wd40 to no avail, and I have no idea what to do.. I've replaced the air filter and spark plugs, but the plugs are coated pretty brownish black, I figure from the Overly rich mixture with the bigger jets. Any thoughts or help would be great, Im pissed, at my wits end and just wanna ride!! Thanks guys!

Not since I've put it back together. It was my understanding that that only adjusts the idle, which hasn't been a problem. It's currently at 2.5 on each side..

No thats the idle screw. The mixture screw is on the carburetor. And yes I did.lol. Very proud of it. Its a seat from a vtx1300. Took some modding but I made it happen.

Nice! I think I'm gonna just recover mine but kinda wanna shave it down to get a similar sleek look. But back to the issue at hand.. The mix screw, that u have to remove a plug to get to and then lightly seat and count back out? One on each carb. They're set to 2.5 turns I believe.. But even when I messed with those b4 all this started( trying to fix the popping) it never had this affect.. In your opinion which way should it go leaner or richer? Or am I still not on the same page? thanks!

Lean or rich I have no clue...im still fairly new.but when I had this issue it fixed it. Made more of a difference then I thought it would. I would definatly try that.

Did u tighten it or loosen it? I'm not sure that's it because those control the mixture at idle, but I'm not un willing to try it!

Wish someone else would chime in and help. It wouldnt hurt to try. Loosening it will make it more lean and tightening it will make it more rich. People fix lots of popping issues using that screw. Especially after u cleaned the carbs.just turn it 1/4 in any dirrection and take her around the block.if she gets worse then start turning the other direction 1/4 turn at a time aftwr each test run. If she gets better then keep turning till your satisfied. Hope this works. Im new at this and I would feel like a champ if it did.lol.

Did you check the fuel filter. Its under the left side cover just ahead of the fuel shutoff. I just bought an 88 800 and that's the first thing I found wrong with it. The flow thru it was almost nonexistant. It had enuff goin thru it to idle all day but when you tried to ride it it would quickly die.
