Default Noise in gear box

I have a 2001 spirit 750, I have noticed a noise coming from the gear box area. Kinda sounds like a "tink" sound. What should I do or look for. Only has 16500 miles on it. I did recently replace chain and sprocket. Everything torqued to spec. Please help.

Does the speed of the "tink" increase with the speed of the engine? Does it stop at any point? Any more info you can give us, we don't have much to go on here...

It happens at different speeds usually under acceleration. Doesn't matter what speed.

Are you certain it's from the gear box and not the head? Does the ticking stay in rhythm with the engine's idle? When you say it happens at different speeds, does it noticeably change pitch with gear changes? When you disengage the clutch, what happens to the sound? What kind of oil are you running? Have you checked the level? When you changed the sprocket, was it the front or rear? You sure the rear wheel is aligned properly?

Get someone to help you trace the noise, from what you said the fault might be one of several things but it is no good ripping stuff out...Put the handle of a large screwdriver against the bone of your forehead or the bone in front of your ear and then place the blade against the cover where you think the noise is coming from..move the blade around until you have localised the fault..be careful not to let the screwdriver touch any moving parts...

I don't know your skill level so is it possible you are listening to chain slap, or perhaps there is wear in the sprocket or maybe the chain is the wrong pitch for the sprockets..

you will have to do some work so you could take the chain off and see if the noise stops,

This is one you are going to have to trace yourself..

John.

The noise is random, only when riding. Which leads me to believe it isn't the motor. The chain is 525 so the pitch is right. Bought the oil from local Honda dealer, it was slightly overfilled, but only put 20 miles or do in it before I drained a lil out and made it right. I will check front sprocket. Not sure how to confirm wheel alignment. But it appears to be lined up.

Yeah..that doesn't help..if you have a centre stand the back wheel comes off the ground so you can run it in gear..but now you bring a whole lot of other possibilities to the party, brakes binding, worn bearings...I really don't think anyone can help you without seeing the bike...

Why not drop it round next time you pass..

John.

Will do next time I'm in the neighborhood. Lol. Thanks for the help. Gonna give it to a guy I work with or just take it to a shop. Don't wanna risk something bad happening to it. I do have a motorcycle lift that straps it down so I may try to listen that way. Outside in a safer area of course.
