My 84 vt700 has a petcock and fuel pump. The only time I use the petcock is when I want drain the fuel tank and I close it to disconnect the fuel line. It stays open all other times. Carbs have a low risk of flooding on these bikes.

Yes you can plumb a fuel line from the tank connector to the carbs but if you ever want to take the tank off you will have to run the engine until the tank is completely empty.
Your FUEL light will constantly be on also as the sub-tank is where the fuel sensor is mounted, personally I would just leave things the way they are. |

1) if you run the line from the secondary tank and just bypass the petcock to the fuel filter, then the secondary tank will stay full until you are low on fuel and the sensor will operate as intended. 2)If you ever did want to remove the secondary tank, you could just unplug the two leads (or just one of them) to the fuel sensor. The light doesn't come on if you the connection isn't complete. Please send me your fuel sensor if you do decide to unplug it. I'm tired of counting miles
