I went to a cycle shop and picked up some pieces for our 750 Spirit. I asked about the 10-40 oil and the fellow there said that a motorcycle motor oil was best..but that a diesel rated oil would work fine...I guess the zinc/phosphorous additives that's been EPA mandated/regulated removed from most motor oil these days are probably a good thing for the gears in your transmission...hence the 'use diesel oil' advice.
I bought Fuchs motorcycle 10-40 at the store....it wasn't particularly expensive. |

Castrol 10W-40 in mine too...
I use 10W-40 in all the vehicles/farm equipment motors... I have never used synthetic oils as yet... My son swears by Synthetic oils...
