Default Losing power 06 1100 Spirit. Thanks.

Hey guys,

I just bought an 06 1100 Spirit that has been well care for as far as I can tell. The bike runs well, with one exception. The motor stumbles and loses power when I roll on more than about ¾ throttle. It’s most noticeable in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear. As soon as I roll off the throttle a little, it runs smooth and the power comes back.
The air filter was dirty and I just put in a K&N but there is no difference. If it comes down to carb adjustment, does the tank need to come off for this? I will appreciate any input…thanks.

Regards,
Mark

Try a fuel filter before you go digging into the carbs..

Plus, run a tank or two of either Seafoam or Startron first. May not help, but definitely not gonna hurt to try first.

Thank you, tried the Seafoam...no luck. Tank has to removed to access fuel filter?

The fuel filter is underneath the battery box in front of where the swingarm connects. You have to get under the bike and look up to see it. It's a pain in the rear to reach up in there and get it out but is doable with some patience.

but to answer your question about carbs, yes, remove seat, remove tank and then the real fun of several connections in a very small space starts.

The bike has 20,000 miles but I'm not sure if it sat much before I bought it. Talking to the previous owner, it has run this way the whole time he owned it (3 years) but it didn't bother him. Of course he didn't mention anything while I was looking to buy it.

change the filters, oil air and fuel, change the plugs, the oil and coolant and the hydrolic fluid, check or change the shoes and pads, make sure the caliper pistons are free, remove, check the level and fully charge the battery and replace the tyres if they are suspect, also change the driveshaft oil..then take it for a 200 mile run to blow the cobwebs out of it, If after all that you still have trouble you may have to overhaul the carbs..somewhere on here is a repair instruction..

my 2000 Sabre was beginning to hesitate like that when I was at around 60mph and would get into the throttle fairly hard. I put a new fuel filter in and it's quite smooth now. It took me about an hour and a half with moderate cussing to do,but it is something you can do yourself.
