Default stupidity

I took the VT700 out for fuel tonight, I had just filled the VT1100 and the weather is nice so a 10 mile round trip to blow the cobwebs out seemed like a good idea, It started without choke which suprised me a bit, and off I went, as I went round the roundabouts I got the feeling I wasn't getting the same control as on the VT1100 and when I stopped for fuel I knew something was wrong..The revs were far too high..

Ok so I think I can do many repairs on the shadow without too much help..so..air filter cover loose? carb mounting rubbers loose?? throttle adjust screw needs adjusting???

Easiest first adjust the throttle screw..hardly any difference..air filter cover..No thats tight...that only leaves carb mounting rubbers..Screwdriver to the rubbers on the throttle adjust side (left) no difference..tighten the right..still no difference..then I notice a wire that shouldn't be there..

Some time ago I did a 520 mile round trip on the bike, and to make the journey easier I fitted a GPS unit on the handlebars, I ran the cable to a cigarette lighter socket which I mounted by the battery.. Yeah..then I unplugged the lead so that I wouldn't run the battery down..The plug was caught in the throttle return spring on the right side of the bike holding the throttle open..

John.

You are not alone my friend. I was out of town on the bike this past weekend. Having quite a time, even met a fellow hondashadow.net member. Anyway my headlight quit working Saturday afternoon, indicated by my high beam indicator coming on. No biggie right? I checked the fuse, it was good. Pulled the headlight bulb, installed new one, and still nothing. Checked lightbulb socked and no power to socket. Fuse is good so that left me stumped. I finished the weekend trip (riding in the middle of a group, since no headlight).
Got home and checked ALL the previous things again, same results. Pulled the seat, pulled the tank. Now I have access to ALL the wiring, and right at the front of the bike, just under the tank the connector that plugs into the harness had come loose.... grrrrr.
It's all good, now.

John

It's not Stupidity..........it's humanity...........if we were perfect then our bikes would be too.

By the way...Great idea about the GPS mounting on your bike and the way you set it up...Who would have thought that ..

Glad it was an EASY Fix!!!
Mine won`t be quite as easy...
Scrounge I am, I tried re-using the valve cover gaskets only to find an oil leak...
Everything else A-OK but the rear valve cover has a slight leak, it`ll be OK until I get one ordered and in...
I`m glad your "stupidity" was easy,

in high school I rebuilt the engine in my car, when I came in from the first drive the coil was arcing to a wiring harness so my dad pull the harness out of the way. Took it out again just to find the wire harness had fallen into the throttle arm on the carb locking it open at 60 mph.

Same thing with mine. Battery Tender lead is already there so all my accessories plug directly into it.

We have had four days of brilliant sun, I took a 100 mile round trip from my place to Swansea then down the motorway past Bridgend, Port Talbot and tenby to Cardiff then back up the A470 to Merthyr Tydfil and home Via the Naughty stone as a test..I'm going to Lake Llangorse today and maybe on to Brecon and if all goes well I should be ready to start the trip..I might take a tent this time..

Thanks for the bell..

John.

At least it was an easy fix.
and don't fret too much about it. People aren't perfect.
That's why they put an erasure on a pencil.
