Default Getting burnt Cordura off chrome tail pipes?

Well, I managed to let the arm of my hi-viz Olympia Airglide 3 slip over the edge of the seat unnoticed today while taking off my helmet and stuff. Not only did my not inexpensive mesh jacket get a nice big burn on the left cuff area, nearly burning off the closure tab, but I got this nice, big, melted blob of Cordura that melted onto my top, chrome pipe back by the passenger pegs. After I got home I managed to wipe off most of the heavy stuff off with a sacrificial towel.

How do I get all the rest of the burnt gunk off without tearing the crap out of my chrome on the pipes?

I was sick when I saw the jacket and the pipe. I had to take a nice, long ride just get myself sorted out over it all. It's a new bike and I hope I didn't scar it for life.

Easy Off oven cleaner. Be careful not to get it on your paint. If you put it on hot pipes it will splatter around like crazy. I found it best to put it on cold pipes. Run the bike to warm it up for a few minutes. Then wipe it off with a damp towel. Works quite well.

On my last bike I was riding in the rain suit for rain and it had pipes on both side of the bike. I found a hole in both legs of my rain pants and black spots on both pipes. I wiped off what would come off while it was hot and sticky. After it cooled off I took some 000 steel wool after it and that got most of it off. The minor spot left burned off over time.

Thanks, both for the good info and for letting me know I'm not the only one it's happened too.

Get the pipes HOT, wipe off with a wet cotton rag. Pick the rest of with your finger nail or PLASTIC putty knife, when cooled.

In a pinch you can cook food (or in your case, Cordura) on your pipes then clean 'em like new with this stuff...

Try a razor blade like you use for scraping glass windows.

I'll second the Easy Off solution. I had someone accidentally rub against my pipes a couple weeks ago and part of their jeans fused onto the pipe. I sprayed the easy off on, warmed the bike for about 5 minutes and then let it site for about an hour. Took a rag and it came right off. Can't even tell anything was on.
