Probably a common question but.. I'm going to do an oil change on my '85 Honda VT500C.. what kind of oil is the best to use? Thanks.

look in the oilology sticky. Use either what the manual recommends or whatever your heart desires so long as it is NOT energy conserving oil.

The Fan Favourite here is Shell Rotella. I am currently using Honda GN-4

Check with MOM!!!
I use Castrol GTX 10W-40 as MOM suggests 10W-40 for my climate and riding conditions...
MOM has all the answers,

So the Rotella T.. that is just general motor oil, right? It's not specifically for motorcycles? Will this be okay with my '85 Honda VT500?

Rotella T is a heavy duty diesel oil 15w40 and is certified JASO MA which makes it a motorcycle oil. Rotella T6 is the synth version 5w40. Both excellent oils.

I also use T6 just seemed to be the oil of choice here. I've been very happy since I switched.

+1 Rotella T6 is amazing oil! My Aero 750 runs real quiet and shifts so smooth, that I will be using it from now on.
