good luck, it's not that hard to do, and if you have questions just do a search on here about "Three yellow wires".

Went with better connectors on three wire fix. Charged battery to 13.65. Checked stator and it's good. Checked battery later in the day and it was down to 12.5 will replace when I recieve new box. That way I'll know for sure battery age.

That is probably a good idea but those measurements alone do NOT indicate a battery problem. Nominal battery voltage after "coming down" off a charge is between 12.4 and 12.8 volts.

Hmm.... Definately food for thought BrightRed.... haven't had a lot of problems with starting only one episode that I had to push start the old girl. It was a super hot day here in North Texas hadn't done the three wire fix yet. Found the negative terminal loose. Added water to three cells that were low. I always try to keep it simple. The battery box replacement will keep it from bouncing around. Still need a good trickle charger for fall/winter. After 25 + years it's starting to come back !!

Living in Texas, if you get an AGM, sealed maint. free battery and you don't have more than a couple of months consective down time, you won't really need to connect a charger at all.......except to be sure it is "full" before you put it away.

If you do get one, a plain, cheap trickle charger won't do; it needs to be an automatic one that won't damage the battery by overcharging.

I had to bump start mine the other day. Hadn't ridden in a couple weeks, and didn't go far, basically a 3 mile trip to the gas station. Typical Phoenix weather 110+.

I should mention, storage is a apartment parking garage, so I get the ambient, albeit shaded, temperature, which has been 105+ during the day for a couple months now.

So after filling up, no joy from the starter. I get it bump started going down the slope, and make plans of starting to ride to work again the next day. Work parking is two floors in the basement, so shaded and about a 10 - 15 degree shift. It took a lil to get started, but after the commute and a days work (and cooldown) it barked to life just like normal.

I've got to get it apart enough to look att he three yellow wires one of these days.

Have been looking at the AGM sealed batteries will have to bite the bullet and justify the cost to rear seat rider and treasurer AKA "the wife". I'm sure she will let me count it as a birthday gift ! Heading out in alittle bit today's cool front hit it will only be 105 degrees .

Is that what they mean by one that "floats" ?

Yes....but marketing (lies) being what it is, you also need to look for other indications that it really IS automatic. Typically, anything under $30 is NOT.
