I am rebuilding my carbs and the diaphragm area of the right one has a hole machined for the Air Cut Valve, but the left one was never machined. It's kind of strange, because the hose has a Tee and attaches right there, but the path is plugged???? Could you tell me if both of yours have the holes machined and/or post a pic?
I think you owe me because you got the last 2 diaphragms from JBM/Don Thanks! Right with hole: ![]() Left without hole:

Alright finally an update!
OHjim: neither of mine has a hole machined. Don't know if it's supposed to or not, but neither has a large hole drilled in it! Everyone else: finally got diaphragms attached, everything cleaned, and carb reassembled. Also bought some new fuel lines and a new set of plugs, along with some liquid gasket sealant... Turns out I have some cracks in my boots and my snorkel so until I can rejet I'm going to try to patch it up for now. Hopefully I'll have some time tomorrow to reinstall everything. Oh, got a brand new battery as well! Fingers crossed that tomorrow the bike will actually fire up! Sent from my iPhone using MO Free |

So not going to be reassembling things today... Started looking and both my snorkel and one of my boots have cracks that leak air. Just as a roughshod job, since the snorkel will b replaced with pods when I can afford it Here's the pics!! Sent from my iPhone using MO Free Last edited by Davidson1023; 12-07-2012 at 11:30 AM. |

Good news: bike started up after a few cranks and every time afterwards.
Bad news. Looks like my wife's imposed budget backfired. Leaking from the float bowl covers. Guess the gaskets are no good. To top it off, still having the same issue with it running fine till halfway through the power band and then giving me nothing afterwards. Wife was so mad she just walked off. I'm about to just part this girl out or try to trade her or something that runs... Sent from my iPhone using MO Free |

Dont give up man! I have an 85' she's a beast....but you can get it. I can tell you a real quick way to plug up that fuel leak. Go buy yourself some "Permatex" Anaerobic Gasket Maker. It comes in a blue tube, VERY IMPORTANT TO GET THIS. This is a non silcon based gasket maker, and only binds and activates on metal surfaces (will not adhere to rubber, etc..) Remove your carbs, take off your fuel float cover, clear bonding area with rubbing alcohol or alcohol wipes. Apply a light coat around the bonding area....DO NOT GET IT INTO THE BOWLS, take your time. There is no rush it takes 24-48 hours to fully cure and bond (DO NOT RUSH THIS) The gel should be red and easy to manipulate...if you get some inside, wipe it out with a papertowel. I used this on mine and 6 months no fuel leaks or problems.
This is a cheap mans way. Also if you need help with your wiring, let me know I just went through mine, and I can tell you from your pictures what the knuckle head before you did to yours....mine was very similar. -chase |

Chase you're a saint! I used some of that black gasket maker to plug the air leaks (as pictured) and probably would've made the mistake of using that one inside had you not warned me. And yes please! The couple of friends I have around here that tinker are all as lost as I am when it comes to wiring so I would be more than willing to follow your instructions!

Ok, well only reason i say not to use that silicone based gasket maker is because, petroleum products (aka gasoline) and silicone = bad joo joo. Will disintegrate and turn into a tar like paste, that will spider web all over your floats, jets....and make a real mess. The one i have recommended will not.
As for the wiring, give me a bit and I will look over your pictures...I may ask for more. I will look over the electrical schematics and point you in the right direction. |
