So now, knowing that doctors visits galore loom on the horizon the pressure is definitely on to get the bike up and running! Guess I'll be buying myself those extractors though!
WOOO! Double congrats! That's awesome news!!!

Well the gods finally smiled on me and gave me the time to work on the old girl!

First off, finally got off the devil screw. After a dozen things, including buying screw extractors... It popped off with wd40 and pliers. Only took thirty tries -.-

Aaaaand I finagled off the carbs. More tedious that difficult, with the exception of the final tug to get off the intake boots. And speaking of, thinking may have found one of my kinks... Below is a picture I snapped of the top of the carbs before I removed them. I didn't see anything in the manual about the random hose coming straight off the top of the carbs where they are joined, so I disconnected it, traced it and found holy crap picture number 2... The line is split wide open. Right around the same area that I have re odd gunk on the left side of the motor... May explain some things? What is that line, afterall? Bet it's not supposed to be busted, either way.

Third pic is just a profile of the carbs. Heading in to start the break-down, I'll post more as I go along!!!

Alright disassembly Is completed! Nothing hard except te fear of messing up my needle and/or jets but otherwise painless. Well minus the horrible state of my right carbs diaphragm... looks like whoever did it last was in a hurry because they mangled it. It's in the pics... Think it need replacing?

Congrats on your bike! I just bought one a few weeks ago (same price!) and am fixing it up, too. I just pulled the seats and toyed with the wiring in back as you are.

What's that yellow wire with the 30 amp fuse for next to your battery? I don't have anything like that (and don't want to!).

The tail-end wiring is all very short. In fact, the first time I put the back seat back on, it pulled the ground wire out of the plug for my rear brake light (causing the idiot light to turn on). Watch out for that, they are super easy to unplug. I ended up extending most of the wires (because I added more lights). The license plate is usually mounted on a slightly rotating box attached to the sissy bar.

Luckily, I didn't have to get into the carbs- though the bike sat a long time, some carb cleaner in the gas cleared out the hesitation it was having at hard throttle.

Your seats look great! You're missing your rear turn signals, I've seen a lot of inexpensive replacements on ebay. Kinda depends on your style.

I fixed the tach using a guide I found on here. Took some digging to get to it though. This thread: '83-85 VT750 VT700 tachometer repair documented with pics. which links to this document: TachRepair.html did the job. One thing I found after repairing the tach and doing your test, set a towel on the bike or something- after I started the biked my freshly repaired (but not yet complete) tach shifted a little and shorted against the frame blowing fuses.

There is a service manual in this thread for the bike: Honda Service Manuals I got a clymer too, but I like having the second opinion- along with that of the fine people here in the forums.

I'm anxious to hear more about your project, I feel we'll have a lot in common on this.

Yeah the seat is in really good condition... It's a shame that I'll more than likely be chopping it up :/ I'm too big for the bike and will be getting rid if the rear seat... It may end up as some bobber hybrid, haven't really decided as I'm more concerned function over form (for now!)

As for the wires I have no clue, that's the same rat's nest I walked in to. I really need to figure it out though, cause as is it's a hot mess >.<

If I plan on chopping off or shortening the rear fender I'm going to have to relocate the boxes that sit under the pilling seat... Where on earth do those go to? Seems like this bike has ZERO. Extra space in it (hell, not enough space for what's in it already!)
